3D Animation and Motion Graphics
Many of our award-winning films incorporate sophisticated 3D animations and other motion graphics. Learn more about how we employ these skills to add energy and interest to our film and interactive productions.
Recreating the Planter in 3D
Robert Smalls in May of 1862 took control of the Confederate steamship Planter and expertly piloted the ship out of Charleston Harbor and to freedom. For our film on Smalls' escape, Wide Awake Films leveraged 8K greenscreen filming, motion tracking, and 3D set extensions to tell this exciting Civil War story. Both interior and exterior models were created to support the narrative.
Charging Herd of Buffaloes
Finding a large herd of American buffalo on the plains is one thing, but standing in front of them as they charge toward your camera is something else. To avoid getting trampled, Wide Awake Films created a virtual herd of wild buffalo that storm by the viewer in this production for the Boot Hill museum in Kansas. Our team expertly crafted this wide-screen scene where one feels the pounding hooves as they pass by you.
Virtual Trenton …with Snow
Today’s Trenton in New Jersey looks nothing like the town that George Washington famously attacked in 1776. For George Washington’s Mount Vernon, Wide Awake Films created a 3D model of colonial Trenton. This virtual recreation allowed us to produce a more exciting and authentic presentation of this battle against the Hessian troops occupying the town.
Motion Graphics that Teach
Sometimes a simple motion graphic is what is needed to convey difficult and challenging subjects. For George Washington’s Mount Vernon, we produced a series of motion graphics that were used to help describe complex constitutional tradeoffs that were being considered by our Founding Fathers in 1787. A More Perfect Union: George Washington and the US Constitution earned Gold Telly Award.
