Washington’s War: 4D Theater Film

The Revolutionary War 4D Theater at George Washington’s Mount Vernon needed an update and Wide Awake Films was tasked with producing a new film for the next generation of visitors.

Washington’s War combines stunning historical re-enactment footage, 3D animated tactical maps, a sweeping score, and booming sound effects that all culminate in a 4D physical experience, complete with fog, snow, cannon fire and theatrical lighting to transport the viewer back to the time of the American Revolution. Washington’s War, which follows Washington through the Boston, Trenton, and Yorktown campaigns, won a 2018 Gold Telly Award.

“Best George Washington ever! You picked the perfect actor. I have been showing this to my 7th-grade history class and will continue to show it in the future to all my US history students. Great film!”

With a cast of over 200 actors and reenactors, a forty person crew, and a battery of 18th-century artillery, this film, two years in the making, boasts an impressive film industry milestone: the most cannons on set since the production of Last of the Mohicans.

Filming took place at locations throughout Virginia, including Fuqua Farms, Richmond; Gadsby’s Tavern, Alexandria; Wellbourne House, Middleburg; Goose Creek Bridge; and George Washington’s Mount Vernon.
