Wide Awake Produced Films, Interactives, and Experiences Debut at the Congressional Medal of Honor Society Museum

The U.S.S. Yorktown (CV-10) at Patriots Point in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.

KANSAS CITY – Amidst much celebration and fanfare, the newly updated Congressional Medal of Honor Society Museum in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, opened its doors over the Memorial Day weekend.  Aboard the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown (CV-10) at Patriot’s Point, this newly updated museum incorporates immersive media, film, and interactive content designed and produced by Wide Awake Films.  Working closely with the Society and its master exhibit design partner, M.Catton & Company, Wide Awake was honored by this opportunity to create new presentations that will highlight the lives and character values of the Medal of Honor recipients highlighted in the museum.

“Everyone at Wide Awake Films is so grateful for this opportunity to use our skills to help tell the powerful stories of our Medal of Honor recipients.  Our close partnership with the Congressional Medal of Honor Society and the team at M.Catton & Company is one that we deeply value and are excited to build upon,” says Shane Seley, Founder and Executive Producer at Wide Awake Films.

Wide Awake Films produced five different offerings that are featured within the updated museum:

Courage Under Fire

Wide Awake Films developed the powerful media and audioscape for the Courage Under Fire presentation - the museum’s marquee media experience.  Leveraging the latest in 3D modeling tools and media design, Wide Awake Films was tasked with developing this immersive experience, which highlights the perilous combat circumstances that American soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines have faced in conflicts including the American Civil War, World War I, World War II, Korean War, Vietnam, and the Global War on Terror.  Along with the media, Wide Awake crafted a powerful, layered audioscape that accentuates the presentation.

Medal of Honor Recipient Videos

Visitors throughout the museum can engage interactive video screens that allow them to learn about twenty different Medal of Honor recipients. With intimate details exploring the person behind the medal, these short films invite visitors to connect with the human character traits that create a hero.  To further energize these presentations, Wide Awake Films incorporated sophisticated animated maps and live-action footage from our film shoot spanning four different eras: Vietnam, Korea, and both World Wars.

UH-1 “Huey” Helicopter Experience

This first-person presentation allows one to view a simulated “Dustoff” medevac mission deep into the jungles of Vietnam from the helicopter’s pilot seat. Working with the CMOHS, Wide Awake crafted a flight that is filled with danger and risk, much like many of these life-saving Dustoff missions.

Aviation Medal of Honor Recipients and the Doolittle Raid

After introducing many of our nation’s aviation Medal of Honor recipients, this museum presentation focuses on Lt. Col. Jimmy Doolittle and his famous 1942 Doolittle Raid. Incorporating cutting-edge animation and period footage, the Doolittle Raid media highlights the courage and sacrifices undertaken by each crew member of this raid.

Night Vision Goggle Experience

The Night Vision Goggle Experience simulates the experience of ground troops engaged in nighttime action during the Iraq War.  Visitors are invited to watch the presentation through viewers placed in the museum's Global War on Terror section.

This museum project builds on Wide Awake Films' growing relationship with the Congressional Medal of Honor Society. Prior to this new museum release, Wide Awake produced several award-winning educational films for the Society.
