In partnership with the Friends of Arrow Rock, we set out to tell the story of American artist, George Caleb Bingham.
Recipient of the 2018 Mid-America regional Emmy in the category Documentary-Historical, this feature length documentary explores the painter’s idyllic depiction of late 19th-century America, contrasted with the harsh reality of the time. As Bingham worked at a fever pitch, America was on the verge of violent turmoil.

Over three years in the making, The American Artist took us all across the country. By retracing the steps of the Missouri painter, we not only came to understand the hardships of the American frontier but also the determination and brilliance behind each stroke of Bingham’s brush.
