Bank of Labor – Lobstermen Local 207
The Washington, D.C. based Bank of Labor helps to grow the North American labor movement by investing its capital in union projects and union members. Bank of Labor is owned by the Boilermakers Union.
One of their most recent efforts helped one of the oldest professions in America. In Maine, the International Machinists Union recently organized lobstermen into a union. This historic event triggered national news coverage. The lobstermen sought a loan to buy a facility where they could sell their own lobster at better prices than they had been getting before organizing, but after repeated attempts to get their financing they had almost given up the effort… until they found the Bank of Labor.
The Wide Awake crew traveled to Maine to capture this unique story of one of America’s last Union banks helping to save an entire way of life.
