Drone and Aerial Videography

Wide Awake Films regularly uses drones and other aerial vehicles to gain overhead shots that give our videos compelling perspectives and overviews that can’t be achieved via other means.

Flying High by Flying Low

While higher altitudes can provide you with truly panoramic images of landscapes and locations, sometimes flying low over the scene can create a sense of drama and perspective that a film needs. Using our drones we captured dramatic footage of The Liberty Rifles in action near Antiertam.

New Perspectives

For the American Battlefield Trust film on Medal of Honor recipient Melvin Morris and his visit to Morris Island, we flew drones to capture long views of this historic island near Charleston, South Carolina. Here the perspective obtained by flying above the flat, coastal island gives one a sense of the landscape that the 54th Massachusetts and others fought over in 1863.

Straight Down with Motion Graphics

We created a film for the Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield showing how a Civil War artillery team would work together to fire their cannon. By gaining footage from above, we could better showcase the careful choreography that was required of Civil War artillerymen. We combined that footage with superimposed motion graphics to clearly identify each team member.
